Warnings and precautions
About milbemycin oxime (the active ingredient)
Milbemycin (macrocyclic lactone) antiparasitic.
How it works
Milbemycin oxime increases nematode and insect membrane permeability to chloride ions via glutamate-gated chloride ion channels, which leads to paralysis and death of the parasite [2]. Macrocyclic lactones act by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channel receptors in nematode and arthropod nerve cells [3].
Key safety points
- The margin of safety in certain dogs of Collie or related breeds is less than in other breeds — the recommended dose should be strictly observed [2].
- Treating dogs with a high number of circulating microfilariae can cause hypersensitivity reactions [2].
- Do not use in puppies of less than 2 weeks of age and/or weighing less than 0.5 kg (Milpro UK SPC) [2].

About praziquantel (the active ingredient)
Isoquinoline anthelmintic (tapeworms).
How it works
Praziquantel modifies the permeability of the parasite membranes for calcium (influx of Ca2+), causing contraction of the parasite musculature [2][3]. Paralysis results, leading to tapeworm death [3].
Key safety points
- Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients (Milpro UK SPC) [2].
