About grapiprant (the active ingredient)

Piprant — prostaglandin E2 EP4 receptor antagonist (not a COX inhibitor).

How it works

Grapiprant blocks the EP4 receptor, one of the receptors through which prostaglandin E2 causes pain and inflammation [2][1]. Because it does not inhibit the COX enzymes it works differently from classic NSAIDs [2].

Key safety points

  • Safe use has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 9 months of age or weighing less than 3.6 kg (8 lb) [1].
  • Do not give together with any other oral or injectable NSAID or corticosteroid [1].
  • Dogs under 3.6 kg (8 lb) cannot be accurately dosed with the tablets [1].
