What robenacoxib is used for

  • Cats: post-operative pain and inflammation after orthopedic surgery, spay and castration — tablets and injection, maximum 3 days (US labels) [2][3].
  • Dogs: post-operative pain and inflammation after soft-tissue surgery — injection, maximum 3 days (US label) [3].

How robenacoxib works (mechanism of action)

NSAIDs reduce prostaglandin production by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes [1]. Robenacoxib is highly selective for COX-2 [1].

Safety, contraindications and precautions

  • Do not use the tablets in cats under 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) — they cannot be dosed accurately [2].
  • Robenacoxib has been shown to prolong the QT interval [2].
  • Do not give with any other oral or injectable NSAID or corticosteroid [3].
